Community Outreach Program...

Making Comfort Quilts is one of our most important Community Outreach programs. Quilts are made with cotton fabric that members have given freely from their “stash,” material donated by fabric companies, quilt designers, and private donations. Sew days are held several times a year. Stitchers get together to make blocks or pin quilt “sandwiches” using quilt tops created by guild members. The more experienced quilt the layers and others donate their time to finishing and binding the quilts. One of the highlights of our bimonthly meetings is “Show and Tell” and quilts destined for donations are proudly and often anonymously displayed.

The coordinator of the Comfort Quilt Program, has this to share. “Rogue Valley Piecemakers strive to give physical warmth and emotional comfort to those in need. Placing a quilt around the shoulders of a cancer patient, brightening a child’s life or putting a quilt on the bed of a hospitalized veteran are the only rewards we seek for our time and skills.”

Comfort quilts are given to WIC for young mothers, the Spears Cancer Center for patients completing therapy, to veterans at Highland House, to Head Start Program in Rogue River, quilts to Hearts with a Mission, and Women in Crisis Center in Josephine County.

Our guild has always stepped forward to help those in need. We have made masks for health care workers and the public to slow the spread of Covid 19 when their was a shortage of N95 masks, and donated quilts, fabric and other supplies to those affected by the forest fires that swept through Oregon and California.

A message from our Chairman,
To our members, if you have been wondering about sizes for comfort quilts, please let this be a guide:
36" x 48"  Crib

40" x 48" Wheel Chair

42" x 58" Nap Quilt

60" x 80" Twin
These are only a recommendation. By using these sizes, we are able to stretch our rolls of batting a bit further.

Mark your calendars for the next Comfort Sew Day -  We sew on the 5th Monday of the month, when there is one!. On our sew days, we work as a team. If you'd like to sew, please bring your sewing machine and sewing supplies. If you prefer to cut fabric, please bring necessary supplies. Other jobs, too, are needed. If you have any questions, please contact us and your message will be forwarded to our Community Outreach Chairperson.. Donations of cotton fabric are always welcome.  Thank you!
